A powder-blue oval scattered with tiny white stars, showing a small propliner above ALASKA AIRLINES in clean capitals and Route of the Starliners in flowing script. The Starliner name dates from 1945, when Alaska Airlines moved from bush flying to commercial service with surplus Douglas DC-3s, DC-4s and Curtiss C-46s. The idea grew grander in 1958, when the airline launched its Golden Nugget Service between Seattle and Fairbanks on a DC-6C Starliner, its cabin decorated to recall the gold strikes of the North.
