This one was made for crates and parcels rather than suitcases, and freight is where the airline's story begins: it started in 1932 as a bush operation out of Anchorage carrying cargo as well as people. Cargo stayed central over the decades, from Alaska's flights during the Berlin Airlift to the cargo business that helped bring the company back to profit in the 1990s.
