The nose of an Alitalia jet frames Ciao, the stick-figure mascot of the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy, kicking a football beneath the words Alitalia Official Carrier. Ciao was drawn by graphic designer Lucio Boscardin, who built the figure from tricolour strokes in the green, white and red of the Italian flag and gave it a football for a head. Alitalia, Italy's flag carrier since 1946, used the tournament to put its name beside one of football's best-remembered mascots, and souvenirs like this sticker travelled home with fans from that summer.
