Rainbow bands, palm trees and a blazing sun turn Los Angeles into pure pop color in this 1970 poster for American Airlines. Psychedelic graphics had moved from concert posters into mainstream advertising by the end of the 1960s, and American's designers borrowed the look to sell Southern California sunshine to a younger generation of travelers. The same year, American began flying its new Boeing 747 Astroliners coast to coast, bringing far more seats to the Los Angeles route. The artist is not recorded.
