Harry Bertschmann, a Swiss-born designer working in New York, created this "Endless Summer" poster for American Airlines around 1970. It packs the city into one colorful view: the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings, Washington Square and the World Trade Center, with ocean liners, tugboats and helicopters busy in the harbor. Its clean, flat shapes marked a turn away from the more painterly illustrated posters of the 1960s. Bertschmann also painted a Mexico poster for the same "Endless Summer" campaign.
