Dated to around 1950, this American Airlines "to New York" poster reduces Manhattan to stacked blocks of gray and blue, the skyscrapers rising like a modernist painting while an airliner passes overhead. Mid-century American Airlines posters often favored this kind of abstraction over literal scenery: E. McKnight Kauffer's 1948 "American Airlines to New York" and Weimer Pursell's 1956 New York poster both took similarly geometric approaches to the city. The artist of this design is not recorded.
