A seagull wheels in the foreground while Coit Tower stands on top of Telegraph Hill above a purple bay in this American Airlines poster for San Francisco. The city was a favorite subject for the airline's artists: E. McKnight Kauffer painted it for American around 1948, and the watercolorist Dong Kingman returned to it in the 1960s with views of cable cars and the Golden Gate. This version chooses a quieter angle, the gull and the fluted tower that has watched over North Beach and the waterfront since the 1930s. The artist is not recorded.
