Under the arched words Airship Hindenburg, the great zeppelin floats above an American Airlines airliner on the ground, framed by red stars and a red base reading American Airlines Inc., Exclusive Connecting Service. In 1936 and 1937, American's timetables advertised connections with the Hindenburg at Lakehurst, New Jersey, linking dozens of U.S. cities to transatlantic airship service to Frankfurt. American also ran a short Lakehurst to Newark flight for airship passengers. Baggage labels like this one were issued for those travelers, a brief partnership that ended with the Hindenburg disaster of 1937.
