British European Airways was formed in 1946 to fly Britain's short-haul and European routes, and the Vickers Viking was one of the first new British airliners in its fleet. This late-1940s poster shows a Viking cruising above the clouds, with a patchwork of countryside spread out far below. The twin-engined Viking, developed from wartime Wellington bomber technology, helped rebuild European air travel in the years after the Second World War. The artist is not recorded on our copy. It is an evocative image of the very beginning of BEA.
