British Overseas Airways Corporation, Britain's long-haul national airline, issued this 1953 poster with a Spanish-language title, “America del Norte.” A cowboy leans casually on his saddle against a bright yellow ground, the very picture of the American West, offered to travelers as the image of North America. The Spanish text shows how BOAC adapted its advertising for markets beyond the English-speaking world. The artist is not recorded on our copy. The poster dates from the early 1950s, a period when BOAC was rebuilding and expanding its worldwide network after the Second World War.
