Rows of striped beach umbrellas fill a sunny yellow field in this poster selling Australia and New Zealand, issued jointly by BOAC and Qantas around 1960. The artist is not recorded. The two airlines were partners on the long haul between Britain and the South Pacific, and their joint posters, some also crediting Tasman Empire Airways on the hop across to New Zealand, leaned on sunshine and open beaches to make the far side of the world feel inviting. Here the design needs nothing more than color and pattern to suggest a summer holiday.
