'Fly B.O.A.C.' reads this pale blue strip, the initials spaced out by dots and finished with a small airliner silhouette. British Overseas Airways Corporation was created in November 1939 from Imperial Airways and British Airways Ltd, and began operating as one company on 1 April 1940. In May 1952 it became the first airline to put a passenger jet, the de Havilland Comet, into service. BOAC merged with BEA and others to form British Airways in 1974.
