On a gold disc, a single-engine monoplane races between black bands lettered 'Braniff Airways', with a speeding arrow overhead and the proud claim 'World's Fastest Airline!' printed below. The boast had real roots: on November 3, 1930, Braniff put two sleek Lockheed Vega monoplanes into service, and during the years that followed the company became known as the fastest airline in the world. Founders Tom and Paul Braniff had begun flying between Oklahoma City and Tulsa only two years earlier, in 1928.
