A grinning cartoon jet in a red flying helmet and goggles zooms out of a bright yellow sun, under the playful pun 'Welcome Abroad' and above a navy band carrying the Britannia name. The cheerful tone suited an airline built on package holidays. Founded at Luton in 1961 as Euravia and renamed Britannia Airways in 1964, it became the largest charter airline in the United Kingdom, joined Germany's TUI Group through the Thomson takeover in 2000, and flew on until it was rebranded as Thomsonfly in 2005.
