A crested red cardinal perches across this crisp white label, beneath the word CAPITAL and above a red band lettered Cardinal Coach in tall white type. Stickers like this were handed to passengers to decorate their luggage. Capital Airlines grew from Pennsylvania Central Airlines and took the Capital name in 1948. Based at Washington National Airport, it was the first U.S. operator of the Vickers Viscount turboprop in 1955 and merged into United Airlines in June 1961.
