Civil Air Transport, known as CAT, began flying out of Shanghai in 1946, moved to Taiwan in 1950 and became the flag carrier of the Republic of China in 1953. On July 11, 1961, it put a Convair 880 into service, which SFO Museum describes as making CAT Asia's first regional airline to offer its passengers jet service. This 1961 poster celebrates that jet, the "Mandarin Jet," with a woman in pink set against a deep black ground above the line "Taiwan - In the Orient fly CAT." A companion poster in the same campaign promoted Hong Kong. CAT ended its domestic services in 1968.
