Stylized flowers, leaves and swirling clouds in greens, pinks, purples and oranges frame a rainbow sun setting over the Pacific in this 1960s Continental Airlines poster, with "Hawaii" spelled out in bubbly, rounded letters. The slogan beneath it, "The Proud Bird with the Golden Tail," arrived with Continental's new golden-tail livery in 1968, placing the poster at the end of the decade. Hawaii, the 50th state since 1959, was a new prize for the airline: Continental began its own Los Angeles–Honolulu and Hilo flights in September 1969, and launched Boeing 747 service to Honolulu in June 1970. The artist is not recorded.
