Houston's two great industries share the stage in this mid-century Continental Airlines poster: oil derricks rise beside a futuristic space-age tower, while a rocket points skyward against a clean white ground. Continental's ties to Texas ran deep. It was founded in 1934 with headquarters in El Paso, and in the early 1950s interchange routes linked El Paso with San Antonio and Houston; its network already reached Houston by the late 1950s. Houston later became the center of the airline's world, growing into a major hub after the 1982 merger with Texas International, and in 1983 Continental moved its headquarters to the city. The artist is not recorded.
