Seaplanes fly in tight formation across a deep blue sky in this 1933 poster for the Crociera Aerea del Decennale, Italo Balbo's celebrated mass flight to North America. On 1 July 1933, Balbo led 24 Savoia-Marchetti S.55X flying boats out of Orbetello, bound for Chicago's Century of Progress International Exposition, and the formation went on to New York. The flight marked the tenth anniversary of the Regia Aeronautica and was heavily used as propaganda by the regime, which filmed it for Istituto Luce newsreels. Posters for the flight also promoted the companies behind it, including Savoia-Marchetti and Isotta Fraschini. The artist of this design is not recorded.
