This round label rings the words Cyprus Airways around two red lions passant on a pale ground, the same pair of lions that appears on a 1949 poster promoting the young airline. Cyprus Airways was set up on 24 September 1947 as a joint venture of the colonial government, British European Airways and private interests, and began flying in April 1948 with three Douglas DC-3s. Airlines of the period handed passengers labels like this one to paste on their suitcases. The carrier later flew from Larnaca until it ceased operations in January 2015.
