An equestrian statue and a church steeple anchor this painterly Delta Air Lines poster for Boston, rendered in loose, expressive brushwork rather than hard-edged graphics. Delta commissioned paintings of its destinations for posters in the 1970s, and works like these were reproduced for display in airports and travel agencies. The airline itself had come a long way from its 1925 beginnings as a crop-dusting company in the Mississippi River Delta, which gave Delta its name; passenger service followed in 1929, and in 1959 Delta became the first airline to fly the Douglas DC-8. The artist and exact date of this poster are not recorded.
