This 1974 Delta Air Lines poster captures New Orleans through two of its signatures: the lacy cast-iron balconies of the French Quarter and the jazz that drifts out beneath them. Both are illustrated crisply on a white ground, in the collage style Delta used that year for destinations including Detroit, Hawaii, New York, North Carolina and San Francisco. The artist is not recorded on our copy. Compared with Delta's 1962 New Orleans poster of a lone trumpeter on deep blue, it shows how the airline's graphic voice had brightened and lightened in a little over a decade.
