The triangle nods to the Greek letter delta, and the name itself came from the Mississippi Delta when Delta Air Service was formed in 1928. Delta won Air Mail Route 24 between Charleston and Fort Worth in 1934, moved its headquarters to Atlanta in 1941 and took the name Delta Air Lines in 1945.
