The Statue of Liberty raises her torch beside an orange falcon on this round Eastern Air Lines label, with New York in bold capitals and Express in italics. New York was the anchor of Eastern's network from the start: Pitcairn Aviation, the airline's forerunner founded in 1926, flew airmail between New York and Atlanta, and by 1937 Eastern's routes ran from New York to Washington, Atlanta and New Orleans. In 1961 Eastern launched the industry's first air shuttle, linking New York with Boston and Washington.
