The Boeing P-8 Poseidon is a military aircraft currently being deployed by the United States Navy (USN). The P-8 is based on a proven airframe design, the Boeing 737-800, and is intended to conduct anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and shipping interdiction and to engage in an electronic intelligence (ELINT) role. The P-8 is a militarized version of the 737-800 with rakedwings. The airframe uses a 737-800-based fuselage that is similar to but longer than the 737-700-based C-40 Clipper. The five operator stations are mounted in a sideways row, along the port side of the cabin. None of these crew stations have windows, only one observer window is available and is located on each side of the forward cabin. The P-8 is designed to replace legacy P-3 aircraft with more advanced technology. The P-8's first flight occurred in April 2009, and the first production P-8A was handed over to the Navy in March 2012.
