It marks the anniversary of an airline founded in 1923 by consul Bruno Lucander as Aero O/Y, which took the Finnair name in 1953. The anniversary year brought another milestone too: in 1983 a modified Finnair DC-10-30ER flew nonstop from Helsinki to Tokyo, and the airline began styling itself the official airline of Santa Claus.
