David Klein built his Boston poster for TWA around a Revolutionary War drum, its shell painted with an American eagle and its sticks crossed on top. Around it he packed the city's history — a tall-masted ship, the steeple of the Old North Church and the colonial skyline — in the flat, bright shapes that made his TWA series so recognizable. The "Fly TWA Jets" line dates it to the jet age, after TWA put its first Boeing 707s into service in 1959. Klein (1918–2005) was TWA's signature poster artist through the late 1950s and 1960s.
