The giant airship Graf Zeppelin glides through a deep blue sky in this 1930s poster issued by the Deutsche Zeppelin-Reederei with the Hamburg-Amerika Linie, promising passage “In 2 days across the Atlantic.” At a time when the fastest ocean liners took several days, that was a remarkable claim. The LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin first flew in 1928 and that same year made its first transatlantic passenger crossing; the Hamburg-Amerika Linie, Germany's great shipping line, sold tickets for the airship services.
