Early aircraft, balloons and flags fill the sky in this poster for the "Grand Meeting Aéronautique" at Buc, near Versailles. The meeting opened on October 8, 1920, and ran for three days under the Aéro-Club de France, with President Alexandre Millerand inaugurating the first events. Proposed by Undersecretary of Aeronautics Pierre-Etienne Flandin, it raised money for sports journalists and an aeronautics relief fund. Crowds watched aerobatics, aerial photography, climbing and descent trials, a cross-country race and an altitude record attempt, with famous pilots such as René Fonck and Sadi-Lecointe taking part alongside balloonists.
