A white stylised seabird sweeps across a bright red oval, the letters HAL worked into its wing and body, with Hawaiian Airlines spelled out underneath. HAL is the airline's two-letter shorthand. The company started as Inter-Island Airways, incorporated in January 1929 and flying sightseeing trips over Oahu that October, and it took the Hawaiian Airlines name on October 1, 1941. Passengers were given stickers like this to put on their suitcases.
