A bold red-orange map of Africa fills this restored, vintage-style poster for Imperial Airways, Britain's flag carrier of the interwar years, with the promise "Fly from London through Africa." By 1932 Imperial Airways had pushed its African service all the way south to Cape Town. A timetable from that year shows the Cairo to Cape Town leg alone taking eight days, flown in stages of six to ten hours a day: big Handley Page HP42 biplanes carried passengers from Cairo through Khartoum to Juba, and Armstrong Whitworth Atalantas took over from Nairobi southward, with overnight stops along the way.
