A white bird with outstretched wings rises from a green band at the top of this cream oval, above IRANIAN in bold red capitals and "Airways" in flowing green script, with a red band closing the design in the colors of Iran's flag. Airlines handed passengers stickers like this to put on their luggage. Iranian Airways was founded in May 1944 by Reza Afshar and Gholam Ebtehaj, and in 1961 it merged with Persian Air Services to form Iran National Airlines, known as Iran Air.
