“El mundo entero a su alcance volando por KLM” – the whole world within your reach flying KLM – reads this Spanish-language poster, dated to around 1940. An airliner flies over a blue globe, a fitting image for an airline that by then was reaching well beyond Europe. Spanish-language advertising served KLM's Caribbean operation, built around the Dutch island of Curaçao in the mid-1930s, which connected the Dutch West Indies with neighboring countries in South America and the Caribbean.
