This vintage-style poster art for KLM Royal Dutch Air Lines borrows one of the great legends of the sea. A Fokker trimotor cruises high above a bank of white clouds beneath the line “The Flying Dutchman – Fiction becomes fact,” turning the old tale of a phantom ship doomed to roam the oceans into a promise of real flight. KLM long used “The Flying Dutchman” as its nickname, and Dutch-built Fokker trimotors carried many of its passengers in the airline's early years. The design is a modern restoration in the spirit of KLM's interwar advertising.
