Mid-century modern at its best: a red leaf-shaped swoosh and starburst float above a list of states, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York, with "lake central" written in loose black script and the line "America's only employee owned airline." The claim was grounded in fact. In February 1955, 162 employees bought 97.5% of the stock, making Lake Central the first employee-owned scheduled airline. Based in Indianapolis, it merged into Allegheny Airlines in 1968.
