The airline was established in 1972 as Malaysian Airline System, and in October 1987 it was renamed Malaysia Airlines, keeping its kite symbol but giving it a slant and highlighting the letters M, A and S in red. Stickers like this went out to passengers to put on their bags, spreading the new identity around the world.
