In this variation of North Central's round label, Herman the duck climbs steeply through his circle, wings swept back, beside the words Route of the Northliners, with the airline name in white on a red band. Founded in Clintonville, Wisconsin, in 1944 as Wisconsin Central Airlines, North Central grew into a major local service carrier with hubs including Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago O'Hare, Detroit and Milwaukee. It merged with Southern Airways in 1979 to form Republic Airlines.
