A bold red NE monogram sits over NORTHEAST in navy italics on this oval sticker, wrapped in a ribbed gold border. Based in Boston, Northeast Airlines took its name in 1940 after starting out as Boston-Maine Airways, and in 1966 it repainted its fleet in yellow and white, earning the nickname Yellowbirds. The airline merged into Delta Air Lines on August 1, 1972, making Delta the fifth-largest U.S. airline at the time. Stickers like this were handed to passengers for their suitcases.
