Silver foil gives this oval its shine: a twin-engine airliner sweeps across a navy field, framed by a red border lettered Northwest Airlines. The airline was founded in 1926 as Northwest Airways to carry U.S. airmail, began flying passengers in 1927 and took the Northwest Airlines name in 1934. From its Minneapolis/St. Paul base it grew into a major carrier that later built hubs in Detroit, Memphis and Tokyo. The metallic finish makes this one of the flashier labels in the Northwest family.
