This bright red label carries the Northwest Airlines name in white serif type beside the circled N emblem. That N belongs to the identity Landor Associates created for Northwest in 1989, when the old Orient look gave way to the scheme employees nicknamed the bowling shoe. Northwest itself dated back to 1926, when it began as Northwest Airways flying mail for the U.S. Post Office out of the Twin Cities. Airlines handed stickers like this to passengers to press onto their suitcases, and this one is a clean souvenir of Northwest's final decades before its merger into Delta.
