That promise was the whole point in the late 1930s: by air, a trip that had once meant days by rail and steamship could be made in a single day from the United States, and Pan American had built Central America into one of its core networks. The artist is not recorded. The arch, a reminder of the Spanish colonial past, frames everyday market life as the real attraction.
