Bold black and orange concentric circles fill most of this Pan Am poster for Japan, with a tiny traditional dancer placed within them, giving the design the feel of a rising sun or a ripple spreading across still water. The stark, graphic approach reflects the modern direction airline posters took in the jet age, when Pan Am's routes across the Pacific linked the United States with Tokyo. Few posters of the period say so much with so little. The artist and exact date are not recorded.
