Edward McKnight Kauffer designed Mexico, Festivals Old and New for Pan American Airways around 1949; a signed copy is held by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. On a cream ground, a festival figure in simple dress and a wide-brimmed hat carries a chicken under one arm, with a bright paper lantern hanging behind and a peeling pink bullfight poster lettered Toros on the wall. The poster was printed in the United States by the Gugler Lithographic Company, and it shows Kauffer's gift for building a sense of place from a few telling details.
