American painter Charles Baskerville created this Siam by Clipper poster for Pan American World Airways around 1950. Buddhist monks in saffron robes gaze up at a towering guardian figure, a yaksha, before the gilded Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Phra Kaew, on the grounds of the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Baskerville, described as an old school portrait painter, brought a rich, painterly hand to the scene. Pan Am added Siam, today's Thailand, to its routes in the postwar years, and the poster is in the SFO Museum collection.
