A rickshaw puller, a passenger and curving temple rooftops crowd a golden-yellow scene captioned ORIENT in this oval label, framed by the navy Pan American World Airways and The System of the Flying Clippers band. Pan Am's Pacific network reached Asia early: its first transpacific airmail flight left Alameda on November 22, 1935, arriving in Manila a week later, and passenger service followed in October 1936. The airline named its aircraft Clippers from 1931 onward.
