A cream kangaroo bounds across a red disc, ringed by the words Qantas Empire Airways and Kangaroo Service. Qantas Empire Airways was formed in 1934 by Qantas and Imperial Airways, and in 1944 its Indian Ocean service was renamed the Kangaroo Service, the beginning of the famous Kangaroo Route between Australia and Britain. The kangaroo itself first appeared that same year, painted on a Liberator. Airlines handed stickers like this to their passengers to press onto suitcases, and this one carried the kangaroo around the world.
