A Lockheed Super Constellation, with its graceful curved fuselage and triple tail, sweeps low over a beach on a teal ground in this poster announcing "Qantas presents the Super Constellation." The artist is not recorded. The Super Connie opened a new chapter for the airline: on May 15, 1954, a 60-passenger Qantas Super Constellation left Sydney on the first service to San Francisco and Vancouver. The crossing took about 30 flying hours with fuel stops in Fiji, Canton Island and Hawaii, on a route Qantas named the Southern Cross Route after Sir Charles Kingsford Smith's pioneering 1928 flight.
