Qantas was founded on November 16, 1920, in Winton, Queensland, and its name stands for Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services. In 1934 it joined Imperial Airways to form Qantas Empire Airways, and its flying kangaroo was first used in 1944. Labels like this rode home on passengers' suitcases.
