A seaplane cruises above a sweep of orange desert in this restored, vintage-style poster art for the Régie Air-Afrique, the French state airline of the 1930s. Founded in 1934 to bring order to colonial air services, the Régie flew the mail from Algiers across the Sahara and gradually took over its neighbors, absorbing the Lignes Aériennes Nord-Africaines, the Transafricaine and, on 1 January 1937, the Régie Malgache that served Madagascar. Its services were suspended at the start of the Second World War, and it joined Air France in 1941.
