Flags of many nations spin in a bright swirl around an SAS airliner in this 1952 poster for Scandinavian Airlines System, a simple, cheerful way of saying that the airline flew to the wider world. The artist is not recorded. By the early 1950s SAS, created in 1946 when the national airlines of Denmark, Norway and Sweden joined forces, was already flying the Atlantic and reaching well beyond Europe, and within two years of this poster it would open the first scheduled airline route across the polar region, from Copenhagen to Los Angeles.
